About

[Updated January 2012]

I’m Sy Calaelen, 23 and I live just outside Lush North London. I’m a spiritual person, with great emphasis on the Buddhist and Pagan paths, and you can read more about that here. In my spare time I write like there is no tomorrow, read comics and novels, practice Yoga and Meditation and make herbal remedies’. I’m not a photographer but I love taking amateur photos, modelling and making short films. I’ve recently started uploading style photos at Chictopia and Lookbook. I’m currently studying A Level English literature and AS Level Philosophy, to add those points to my other A Levels. I’m determined to get myself a degree and a career that will make me happy.

Welcome to Harlequin Days, a personal blog on culture, fashion, media, the arts and food. I’ll be presenting my own words and comment on news, and sharing information I just couldn’t keep to myself from various sources. I’m vegetarian too, so sharing vegetarian and vegan options and recipes I’ve tried and tested will be available here and on my main blog found here. I used to be a supporter of PETA but I’ve found them to be too constraining, and I’ll be posting my own accounts on here too. I have a Youtube channel where I’ll be talking about comics, fashion, books and make-up and such stuff. I’m an out and proud nerd so bare with me.

I don’t wear fur, but I do wear Dr. Martens which are leather and one day the vegan Dr. Martens. I like my faux fur coats, but it’s because I can look fabulous without harming an animal. Like many women, I have limited my amount of products that used to be animals to just leather Dr. Martens and handbags (if need be, otherwise faux or vegan editions are perfect!) The histories of various clothing companies are rich with knowledge, and I take them to heart. As a young mixed lady, I’ll always wear Dr. Martens, Chanel, Dolce & Gabana and support vegan and faux lines on the High Street.

My love of books, comics, film and music runs deep, and I believe your iPod list reveals a lot about a person’s character, so expect the odd Glued segment on my media loves and loathes. I’ll also give reviews on the latest and past comics and graphic novels, but they’ll be concentrating on Vertigo and DC comics and a few others, due to lack of interest in Marvel. I’m a DC girl! I’ve started collecting some of the New 52 from DC and I shall share my thoughts with you. Along with those, I’ll be doing film and music reviews too. The Arts makes me happy or question our time, by this I mean, spending days at the Tate, watching art films and reading up on fashion collections and sporting tattoos make me a profound fan of the modern form. I have 9 tattoos so far, as I’m in the middle of getting my 10th but the work is not yet finished as it’s a half sleeve. I support tattoos’ but only for the right reasons, thanks to the education of my tattoo artists friends. They’ve turned me away from tattoos enough, so I can only thank them and share their knowledge.

Harlequin Days is my little place to write, share and vent my frustrations, so I ask that you be nice, share and have fun. If you have a blog similar to mine let me know so I can add it to my blogroll.

For more information on me, read it here.

I’m an upfront sort of girl, what I give is what you get and I’m super proud I live life the best way I can, as I am kind of stubborn about how I live my life.

I’m a supporter of (product)REDWWFIt Get’s Better Project and the British Red Cross.
